Coming Next Year, Connect Your Phone to Your PLAYSTATION 3

Today's connectvity spot comes with news that you will soon be able to link your PLAYSTATION 3 to your cell phone.

According to SoftPedia, with phone linking, that means "hardcore media streaming and maybe a chance to take screenshots and capture videos from the games you play, plus some neat content management of your saves and files. We'll see this new feature being launched by April 2008, probably with the aid of a brand new firmware. I'm curios to see if the connectivity option is only available for Sony's phones, or we'll be able to hook up iPhones to our beloved consoles."

We will update you as more comes on this.

While this may be cool I'm not quite sure I'm all that excited. I'd rather see them create the PSPhone and try to go head-to-head with the iPhone.

My guess is that this will most likely ONLY connect with Sony Ericsson phones since there's probably too many compatibility and firmware issues thereby causing Sony to have to comply with dozens of different protocols and manufacturer standards.

With Sony phones they can control how the devices connect and how future firmware will effect (or screw up) features between the two devices.

I think by November next year we should have the infamous PSPhone with an online SingStar store to download tunes and music videos that you can later load them into the full game on the PS3. By then we'll have the PSP Store. All this and I'm able to access my PS3 from anywhere and you have a device that is almost essential to getting the full Playstation experience.

However, in the immortal words of Dennis Miller, "...but that's just my opinion, I could be wrong".
