Hot Shots Golf 5 Online Lobby Is a Mini-Home

The online game lobby for Sony Computer Entertainment's recently released Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is pretty awesome. When you look at it, it is sort of like a mini PlayStation Home. You create a mini-avatar and chat with other players in the game lobby, while being able to access the XMB friends list. You can also entert and create custom tournaments with you and your friends.

This IS Home and probably what would've been a better idea. Of course, it's too close to Nintendo's Mii's so I can see why they didn't go this route but here's my question: what will people need with Home if each game adopts a similar strategy?

Imagine Resistance or SOCOM having a similar world where you walk around in the game's environments and get with groups before the mission/deathmatch takes place? There'd be no reason to go into Home would there?

Had Sony released Home a few weeks/months after Phil's presentation then maybe more companies would be using and uploading their own content to the service but instead we get stuff like this. And from an internal Sony studio no less. It's almost like they're not even talking to each other. If I were heading up Home I'd be out for blood from the director of the game.

HOW COULD YOU DO THIS?!?!? YOU'VE JUST TRUMPED EVERY IDEA WE HAD ABOUT HOME BY STICKING THIS DIRECTLY INTO THE GAME!!!! ARE YOU INSANE!!! WE'RE TRYING TO PITCH HOME TO OTHER DEVS AND YOU'RE MAKING YOUR OWN VERSION!!! THE OTHER DEVS WON'T NEED HOME IF THEY DO THIS ON THEIR OWN!!!

The Agency is another game that will use a similar concept thereby showing the unnecessary need for Home.

One can only hope that Home doesn't go away as I still think it has other features that merit it being a separate entity but games like this don't help.
