[Are PS3 Entitlements Back? (’Dark Sector’ Announcement Provides A Clue)]

Update 8:45 PM: MTV Multiplayer got a short interview with D3 Publisher's Josh Austin. The interview can be read below.

Josh Austin, a producer at D3 Publisher answered some of our questions regarding the “Dark Sector” entitlements:

Multiplayer: Why did you decide to include Entitlements now? Was it a mandate by Sony, or just forward-thinking on the developers’ part? Please explain.

Austin: Including medals or “entitlements” as we call them in “Dark Sector” was definitely forward-thinking by the developer, Digital Extremes. From the start of development, we planned that gamers would have a compelling gameplay experience regardless of platform.

Multiplayer: Did you get any specific instructions from Sony regarding “entitlements”? If they were not called “entitlements” would they have been included in the PS3 version anyway?

Austin: We were already in the process of implementing entitlements in-game when we heard the news that they would be integrated by Sony and have more of a presence.

Multiplayer: Will these entitlements bring up a screen when achieved?

Austin: Players will receive an in-game message that they have unlocked an entitlement.

Dark Sector Online Half-Assed on PlayStation 3

D3 Publisher has released the official details on Dark Sector's online modes. There are many differences between the Xbox 360 version's online mode, and the PlayStation 3's.

First off, both console versions are played with their online provided and also have System Link/LAN as a choice as well. Each multiplayer game supports up to ten players, and have access to five different maps.

Leaderboards are available on both console versions of the gam as well. However, the Xbox 360 leaderboards uses TrueSkill ranking and the PlayStation 3's uses traditional scoring.

The PlayStation 3 version of the game will only support the ability to search for or create multiplayer games. The Xbox 360 version, however, allows you to create, join, and search for multiplayer games, use a Quick game option, Custom game option, and a Ranked game option.

Talk about half-assed.

Dark Sector: “PS3 Version Was Not Running As Well”

Joe Austin, the Producer for Digital Extremes' & D3 Publisher's upcoming Dark Sector, stated today that the PLAYSTATION 3 version of the game was almost canned.

“So, yeah, this is the PS3 version, umm… it looks just as good as the 360 version, which we’re very happy about. Towards the end we started having some serious conversations about what we were gonna do, uh, but we ended up pulling it off, so we’re very proud of that.”
When asked for clarification of what he mean, he replied “It was just not running as well as the 360″. I'm not sure if thats the case now considering they kept saying "was". Be gracious though that the big guys making the game got it running on the better hardware. /sarcasm

Dark Sector to Look the Same on the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360

TGR had an interview today with the game development team for Dark Sector. They asked about the differences of the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 versions. Their answer was "it will look the same on PS3 and the Xbox 360".

Josh Austin, the producer for Dark Sector was asked this question. He responded “this is what works on a 360, this is how this is how it’s going to have to be close to on the PS3.” He seemed proud of the success they had with the system.

HE did admit the team hadn't fully figured out the PLAYSTATION 3 yet. At least the game is going to be the same on both consoles.

Dark Sector Progress Report

Hayden Tenno is the upcoming hero of D3 Publisher's Dark Sector. He comes with a huge metal arm with a giant ninja star on the tip. That spells blood. His arm wasn't always the cool blade that it is though.

At the beginning of the game, Hayden's arm is just a gooey open wound, but when a guard catches him trying to escape from his abomination, his hand turns to metal. As Hayden discovers his abilities, the metal follows through his body till he is surrounded in metal.

In the demo, the PLAYSTATION 3 version featured some SIXAXIS motion sensing. If you want to throw your implement of death, you use your SIXAXIS controls.

Dark Sector: Plot Revealed

Digital Extremes has been developing Dark Sector for over three years, and is only now starting to hint at details regarding the plot.

You play Hayden Tenno, a covert agent who - in the midst of a dangerous mission - gets attacked and infected with a bio-weapon. The weapon in question gives Hayden powerful, inhuman abilities which he must learn to control.

This is all well and good. But the latest trailer hints at another darker story. It seems agent Tenno must die in order to fully realise his potential, and he may also have a few skeletons in the closet, as the person who can “fix” him believes that he deserves to perish.

Could this trailer have just given away the ending to the game? Could Hayden really die abandoning all hope for a sequel? We think not. But until the next slice of story pie is handed to us, we’re going to keep speculating as to what’s really going on in this twisted, disturbing world.

Dark Sector: New Trailer Shows People Want Him Erased

We haven't heard from good ol' Dark Sector in a while. Now we have this 31 second trailer. The trailer basically shows some guy warning the anti-hero that people want him erased. At the end of the trailer, the main character gets some Venom-like mask covering his head, which we don't get to see.
