Huge Mods to Come to Unreal Tournament III

Unreal Tournament III is set to get some bigger modifications on the PlayStation 3 soon. Developers behind Tactical Ops (classic Unreal Tournament mod) want to bring Tactical Ops 3 the consoles. The team doesn't thing that their first release of Tactial Ops 3 will support consoles, but they are hoping to do it for future releases.

"This modification of Unreal Tournament III will focus on capturing the original Tactical Ops feel, with all the updated goodies v has to offer. The Tactical Ops series focuses on fast, action-packed gameplay, pitting terrorists against Special Forces in the most deadly scenarios."

Lets hope we can see this on the system.

What 2D Game do we know and love that features an Italian plumber that involves finding the flag at the end? We all know what I'm talking about. Old Snake on His Way to Unreal Tournament III

A skilled modeler at the Epic Community is working on a model of Old Snake from Kojima's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for Epic's Unreal Tournament III. The model isn't quite complete yet, but it is coming along very nice and smoothly. We look forward to its finish.

Image Metrics Reveals Facial Capture in Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, More

Image Metrics has revealed today their new facial capture technology. They show in a video of how the tecnology works in games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, KILLZONE 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, LAIR, and Unreal Tournament III. The brief KILLZONE 2 footage they show seems to be new, and looks the best of all the games demoed.

"Image Metrics has bridged the Uncanny Valley, developing a superior facial capture and animation system that creates facial animation with far greater accuracy, as much as seven times faster than key framing, and they only need video files and a facial rig and 3D model to get started."

Check it out at the link.

Microsoft Fine With Master Chief on PlayStation 3's Unreal Tournament III

Buisness Week spoke with Microsoft in regards to the new Master Cheif character modification for Unreal Tournament III for the PlayStation 3. Microsoft attorney Don McGowan had this to say about the situation.

"Actually it's nothing more than the Game Content Usage Rules...in action. When these were developed, people all thought they were focused on machinima. The truth is that while they do address machinima they also allow for a lot of other things. Mods like this are one of them."
He continues on, getting more personal.
The developers aren't selling the mod, they're not monetizing Microsoft's IP, they're just creating something to share their love of the Master Chief on a new platform...And no one is taking characters from PlayStation games (do they even have any games?) and putting them on our platform...
"Oh no he didn't!". Come on Sony, lets here a good comeback for the guys at Microsoft. Perhaps nobody is taking characters from PlayStation games and putting it on the Xbox 360 because they don't allow community modifications.

Unreal Engine 4 Targeting Consoles

The Unreal Engine began as a cutting-edge PC graphics tech, great for PC developers. The future is now though, and now is nex-generation (weird how that works, right?). Unreal Engine 4 will be aimed towards consoles, not the PC, according to Epic boss Tim Sweeny.

"There is a long life ahead for Unreal Engine 3. Version 4 will exclusively target the next console generation, Microsoft's successor for the Xbox 360, Sony's successor for the Playstation 3 - and if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs, then that also. PCs will follow after that."
Epic seems to have gone crazy with console fever. I guess that just means more good out of it for us.

PLAYSTATION 3 Needs Their Own Epic Exclusive

Well, the Game Developers Conference for 2008 has been going on this week, and Microsoft announced Gears of War 2 with Cliffy B. running out on the end with the chainsaw gun screaming November 2008.

Now, your obviously on onAXIS because your a PLAYSTATION 3 fan, but you got to admit, Gears of War was one hell of game that I'm sure any of us would greatly welcome to our consoles. We have Resistance 2 to go up against Gears of War 2, but even though Insomniac is going to develop one hell of a game that may be better than Gears 2, it's hype is not in tact with that of Gears 2. Meaning Gears 2 will most likely move more consoles than Resistance 2.

We know from the success of Unreal Tournament III that Epic Games and Sony have a tight relationship. Sony should use that relationship to their advantage by getting their own 3rd person action title out of Epic exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3. I'm sure Mark Rein would love to work on a project such as that.

Those are just my two cents on my own argument. Yeah, I know... weird.
