Latest EGM Rumors: Ratchet Sequel In Form of PSN Game

The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly comes with it's monthly heaping of rumors. Lets see.

First off, they hear that Insomniac Games is working on a sequel to Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction in the form of a PlayStation Network. Could it be Quest for Booty from that PlayStation Network release list leak?

The Tecmo Bowl revival game is still in the works as well. Everything else is not much interesting.

Insomniac Games Still Making New IPs

Insomniac Games have established themselves quite nicely with their two succesful IPs known as Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. You'd think they'd keep making sequels as long as the money comes in, but Insomniac President Ted Price explains that they intend to "continue to produce new IP, there's no question about that."

Whats coming in these new IPs? We have no clue.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Post Mortem Interview Part 3

The third part of the GameTrailers Post Mortem interview reveals some Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction secret easter eggs. They asks about co-op play, and find out what the future has in store for the the team behind Ratchet & Clank.

They were asked about things they had to cut from Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, which results in them giving some interesting hints at Ratchet & Clank Future 2.

"There were certain things in the story, characters that I wanted to address more in this part of the story arch that we’re not going to address until a later part of the story arch. And more of the background with the Lombaxes and what happened to them. It’s things we hint at. The Zonie and the history of the Zonian and who they are."

Red Ring of Death Reference In Ratchet & Clank

If you guys have been playing Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, you may have noticed a little reference to the Red Ring of Death in the game.

After securing the area on Planet Reepor, robot assistance Zephyr disables the block to the entrance, goes inside and starts to hack some machine-like device. While doing so he says "Time to show off my superior online capabilities!" followed by Kronk saying "Too bad your CPU has a 43% failure rate!".

A pretty funny reference, even if you own the console yourself like I do. It seems developers are getting more comical by the day.

Insomniac Talks In-Game XMB & PLAYSTATION Network

In a recent interview with Insomniac's Chief Creative Officer Brian Hastings, he discusses the power of the PLAYSTATION 3 and new IPs.

One of the questions that Brian Hastings is asked is about the PLAYSTATION Network, and how it's not a service as well built as Xbox LIVE. They ask him his views on the subject.

He replies that once Sony allows in-game XMB access, a lot of LIVE's advantages will go away. He goes on to say that Sony has some advantages over LIVE, being the fact that they support dedicated servers for their games, which allows us to create a lag-free play experience and avoid host advantage problems.

He also says that the PLAYSTATION Network's open approach to the online gives the developers more freedom to design the players online experience anyway they want.

Hastings likes some things about LIVE that he wishes Sony had done. One being including a headset in every PLAYSTATION 3 package, helping to build the online community and make friends online. He also likes achievements and he wishes they were part of PLAYSTATION 3 games as well. He likes the idea of comparing your score to other gamers like you can do on LIVE.

Ratchet Sees Colors In Japan

Seems that playing Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction on a Japanese PLAYSTATION 3 has his wardrobe and facial hair changing colors in some sort of haze.

If your PLAYSTATION 3 console is Japanese, your going to play a Ratchet with green pants, big black Scorcese eyebrows and a little bit more techno/electronic music with the Groovitron. So now we can do the robot!

Insomniac Bringing In More DLC

In an interview with D+Pad magazine, Insomniac Games' Ryan Schneider dropped some new information for hopeful additions to the Insomniac Games we already own:

"It's been great to have a network that can facilitate the map-pack downloads, demos and trailers for both Resistance: Fall of Man and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The number of users on the PLAYSTATION Network has been rising steadily and we absolutely plan to support them with more new content coming soon."

We already know about Resistance: Fall of Man downloadable content, but Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction? That would make me happy.

IGN Rewards Ratchet & Clank Game of the Month

IGN posts a game of the month, well, every month, and this much Insomniac's heavy hitter got a go at the award. Yes, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is this month's game. IGN explains:

Why We Picked It: Insomniac has proven itself to so far be the surest bet on the PlayStation 3, with Resistance: Fall of Man being the must-have launch title for the system last year, and now with the release of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The game takes all of the elements seen in the previous incarnations of the franchise and turns them up to 11. A visual masterpiece, it also serves as the best-looking PlayStation 3 game to date. It's a title that will appeal to practically any gamer out there, and should absolutely not be missed if you own a PlayStation 3.

IGN originally scored Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction with a high 9.4 out of 10.

Insomniac Rips on Aaron Thomas of GameSpot

In the latest fullmoon show from Insomniac Games, the crew discuss some reviews of the their recently released Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. They appreciative of the reviews after looking at Metacritic and GameRankings. They state that out of 21 scores, only 4 are below 90 with 3 perfect scores. They were concerned about critics to the "returning to roots" approach to the game, but people have received it very well.

One of the reviews had sticked out to them which prompted the crew to say "If you hate variety, than you've got a problem.", "play more sports games", and "we will not mention the media outlet".

After the discussion with their mystery guest, they speak to Ross Macintosh . The crew discusses their "GameSpot Resistance: Fall of Man Tournament." Ross quickly reminded the rest of the crew that the tournament is now called "The Resistance: Fall of Man Tournament with the website whose name we shall no longer mention" in a jokingly manner.
