Shivering Isles Now Available, Download Coming November 29, 2007

For those Oblivion players who have been waiting to expand their gaming experience, Bethesda Softworks' The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles expansion pack was released today.

Or, if you prefer a download, Shivering Isles will be available for download at the end of this month, on November 29, 2007 during a regular Thursday update.

So, next Thursday, expect it. It would probably be out sooner if they didn't do Thursday updates only though.

Bethesda Talks Elder Scrolls MMO

Ever since ElderScrollsOnline.com was registered by Bethesda Software, much speculation arose about an Elder Scrolls MMORPG.

SPOnG caught up briefly with Bethesda’s Pete Hines late last week who told us the following about the recent $300 million cash injection into Bethesda’s new MMO group:

“This investment allows Bethesda to continue to grow and pursue our previously announced initiatives. That includes work now going on with our new MMO group (ZeniMax Online Studios), as well as the titles that we are working on.”

He added:

“I don't think that this funding changes our focus in terms of what we are about and are trying to accomplish. The additional resources will allow us to expand our publishing efforts-both our own titles and those of other studios-and to pursue development of more titles, working with internal and external development teams.”

When we find out more about this mystery MMO, we will keep you informed.

Elder Scrolls Online?

Robert Hawarth over at Voodoo Extreme was doing some internet searching, and he came across something interesting. ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, recenly purchased the domain name, ELDERSCROLLSONLINE.COM.

ZeniMax Media recently opened up a online game division headed up by Mythic co-founder Matt Firor. If you know how to add, combine the domain with the sentence before this. Could a massively multiplayer online Elder Scrolls be arriving?

The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles Going Standalone

Today Bethesda announced it will release a standalone retail disc for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's expansion, The Shivering Isles. The Isles are also included in the Game of the Year Edition of Oblivion released last week. But for gamers who already bought the original game when it was released last March, now they can visit the Isles, as well.

The second full expansion pack to Oblivion, The Shivering Isles allows players to explore The Isles of Mania and Dementia, reachable through a door on an island that appears in Niben Bay near Bravil. The expansion will extend Oblivion's gameplay for another 30+ hours and includes new quests, creatures, and dungeons. Among the new monsters are the Gatekeeper, a collection of bodyparts that have been stitched together, and the Knights of the Order, made up of tree roots.

The Shivering Isles standalone disc will be released on November 20, 2007.

Bethesda: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition Released

Oblivion Downloadable Content May Come to PLAYSTATION Network

Bethesda Softworks sent over a note announced they will release their last downloadable content extra for 2006's fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The download, titled Fighter's Stronghold, will launch on Oct. 15 for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions and for the first week will be free to download. Here is a snip:

"Defeat the attacking marauders and become lord of Battlehorn Castle. Located in the Colovian Highlands west of Chorrol, this expansive castle will allow you to live the life of a noble warrior, with private quarters, grand dining hall, wine cellar, barracks, training room and more. And what castle would be complete without a few hidden passages and dark secrets?"

On the Bethsoft blog site, PR head Pete Hines talks about the possible way they will bring the downloadable content to the PLAYSTATION 3 version:

"Since we’re talking about DLC, I thought I’d update you with what’s going on with the PS3 version of Oblivion. We are close, very close to working something out to bring Shivering Isles to PS3 owners. That may be in downloadable form via PSN, or as a standalone retail disc, or both. I can’t say definitively yet that it will happen, and I definitely can’t say when. But it’s looking good, and hopefully we’ll have good news soon. Don’t have anything I can tell you about any other DLC, but Shivering Isles is the one we get asked about all the time, so I at least wanted to update folks on that."

Hopefully the Oblivion gamers can enjoy Shivering Isles soon.

Oblivion: GOTY Edition Release Details

Bethesda has released information on several upcoming products which will be available on store shelves this week. The Japanese will get the PlayStation 3 version of Oblivion, the Xbox 360 version was released several months ago and has been reported to be selling well so they hope the PS3 version will do the same.

Secondly, the Oblivion Game of the Year edition for the Xbox 360 is shipping this week throughout Europe. It was released last week in the UK and will be in stores towards the end of the week.

The US will also be getting the Oblivion GotY edition for the PS3, which is set to be released in North America during mid October. Bethesda aren't certain if this date is going to be a fixed one yet but hopefully they'll confirm it to us soon.
