Famitsu: Cross Edge Announced for PlayStation 3

The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, features a new game exclusively for the PlayStation 3, called Cross Edge.

The game, scheduled for a September 2008 release in Japan, is a collaboration between Idea Factory, Gust, Capcom, Namco Bandai, Nippon Ichi Software, and Compile Heart. Development is currently 70% done at the moment.

In Cross Edge, the main character wakes up in a messed up world with some other characters who don't belong there. The world they wake up in lives on feeding off people's souls from other worlds. If it is not stopped, the world which that soul comes from will cease to exist. Currently, only two of the worlds are known. One being The Underworld, which consists of soulds from Vampire/Darkstalker and Disgaea. The other being Dreamworld, consisting of souls from Ar Tonelico and Marie's Atelier. Siren: New Translation Famitsu Online Preview

Well, the official website is live, the first trailer has been released, and now the first preview of Siren: New Translation as well. According to the preview, the action in the game has increased greatly. The game's story is comprised of 12 episodes, as if it were some television drama. Star Ocean IV: New Famitsu Scans

This week's Famitsu issue promised to publish some new information on tri-Ace titles, and we got some new information on Star Ocean IV. Unfortunately, tri-Ace still hasn't announced the console for the game. This is what we do know from the scans.

- Character designs for Edge Marverick and Remy Saionji revealed.

- Some town shots that look like they might be realtime.
- Interview with the Square Enix producer, and Gotanda.
- Gotanda isn't directing Star Ocean IV this time, he's just a supervisor and responsible for the original story concept.

New Soul Calibur IV Character: Fia Angol

The latest issue of Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu, reveals a new character in Namco Bandai's upcoming Soul Calibur IV. Her name is Fia Angol (super-sized picture here). She was designed by manga writer Mine Yoshizaki, who best known for creating Keroro Gunso.

Resident Evil 5: Famitsu DVD Footage

The latest issue of Famitsu Magazine came with a DVD with two and a half minutes of Resident Evil 5. The footage is all in Japanese, so we have no idea what he is saying, but as he talks you can see him playing the game, so a bit of gameplay is revealed. Metal Gear Solid 4: Six New Famitsu Scans

The latest issue of Japanese Gaming Magazine, Famitsu (weekly), contains six new pages of Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The new scans feature new screenshots, including one with Snake and Campbell, and two chickens who appear to b enamed Liquid and Solid. Famitsu Interview: Tales of Vesperia to Come to PlayStation 3?

In a new interview with Gouda Tsutomu and Higuchi Yoshito, who are working on Tales of Vesperia for the Xbox 360, they are asking whether the game will arrive on the PlayStation 3 or not. Higuchi Yoshito answered (warning: rough translation).

Q: PlayStation 3 is scheduled for release?
A: Higuchi's SHINFONIA, when the GameCube too specialized and because of the PlayStation 2 when transplanted to the lower frame rate, a considerable ingenuity. PlayStation 3 is a very sophisticated, so in that sense I think the same thing can be reproduced. However, it will be released, and what is not yet.

It seems he is trying to say the game will be coming out for the PlayStation 3, just a bit after it is released on the Xbox 360.

Resident Evil 5 Footage Coming With Next Week's Famitsu

There has been rumors that the next issue of Famitsu will include a Capcom 25th Anniversary DVD. Capcom have confirmed those rumors on their newly launched 25th Anniversary website. According to website, The Horror Is Alive, the text in the Famitsu DVD image reads "Biohazard 5 Exclusive Footage + Interview". The next issue should hit shelves March 28, 2008, and just as Persona 4 footage did, the Resident Evil 5 footage will probably make its way online.

Yakuza 3: The Famitsu Review of 37/40

The latest Famitsu review scores are in, and Yakuza: Kenzan! did phenomenal. It scored 9's across the reviewers and one 10 giving it a 37/40. Now we just need to hope this bad boy comes to US. With the recent announcement of Yakuza 2 coming, I wouldn't doubt it.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Arriving June 12, 2008?

According to a page in the latest issue of Famitsu, which is an ad for Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the title will be releasing on June 12, 2008.

We assume this form the "2008.06.12" that appears on the right hand side of the image. Could this be Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots solid release date? Only announcements will tell.

Japan Is Hating on PlayStation Home

We can pretty much say that mostly everyone here is interested in Sony's upcoming Home, right? It may not be the same in Japan. In the most recent issue of the Famitsu magazine, they quizzed readers on their thoughts of Home. The question was "What do you think about member services like PlayStation Home?" The results:

- 27.3 percent are interested in trying it out
- 37.3 percent don't care
- 35.4 percent dislike such services

One high-schoool student even left a quote in the magazine, and a college student, and company man as well.

A high-school student says "I won't allow myself to be trapped in some fake reality." A 22-year-old college student: "It just doesn't look like it'd be fun as a game." A 24-year-old company guy says "It's more fun to enjoy myself in the real world."

Famitstu & Square Enix Discuss Final Fantasy XIII Release Date

Well, Square Enix of North America already denied the rumored 2008 release date of Final Fantasy XIII saying that they were undecided (it could still happen), but it's probably not the same for Japan.

Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine, decided to call up and ask Square Enix's PR department a few questions about the matter.

Will Final Fantasy XIII be released in 2008?
All the information about that is false and Nomura/Toriyama never said the game will be released during 2008.

What caused that rumor?
The websites overseas probably mistranslated Toriyama when he said the development team is hoping to release a battle system demo in 2008, and "finally get the experience you wanted".

To conclude, what is the current status of Final Fantasy XIII, and when will we hear more information?
The PR department has stated that the progress of all Fabula Nova Crystallis games is going well, and the company always releases new information in events and through the media.

It's good to hear the development is going well. Hopefully soon, they will be able to release an official statement about the games.

Final Fantasy XIII & Versus XIII: Translated Information from Scans

Well, you've probably seen the Famitsu scans we posted earlier today of Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII. Thanks to Forever-Fantasy, we have a translation of what these new scans tell us.

Final Fantasy XIII
As part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project, Final Fantasy XIII embarks on an adventure full of mysticism, friendship, and strife in the name of destiny. The world calls for change. Chosen by the crystal to guide the world into this new era of change, Lightning attempts to overthrow the government from which she was cast. Cocoon, for many, is the ideal state of life. Or at least it was. Prosperity reigned upon its inhabitants. Powered by the crystal, they were given everything they would ever need: machines, magic, and other living beings. The citizens of Cocoon were thankful, but soon became scared of the threat posed from without. The people of cocoon grew scronful, outlawing any suspicious personae to the world below: Pulse. Lighning is one such person, and has witnessed the resulting injustice first-hand that has begun to overtake the world of Cocoon. After becoming friends with many of Pulse's inhabitants, she has begun to realize her true destiny."

The world above, as the people of Pulse know it, was enchanted by a magical crystal that established everything that the world has now become. Monorails and hover lanes divide the living sections of the inhabitants. This is a global utopia for all kinds of modern technology. Better yet, it is a place that is constantly evolving. The technology has become so advanced that the place has now decorated itself into a formidable fortress. The defenses accrued have made Cocoon a safe haven from the denizens below, but the people of Pulse do not see it that way. They see it as if the citizens of Cocoon have stranded themselves.

Pulse
Like Cocoon, the world of Pulse was created by a crystal. 'Awakened,' as the people would state. Due to the harsh rules Cocoon has led, many believe Pulse to be a breeding ground for everything that has gone wrong with the world. It is a place filled with malcontent. They believe this is the source of all the violence and misery that occurs. As a result, the government outcasts "conspirators" to this underbelly. Since then, the exiled Cocoon citizens have discovered the truth. That Pulse is actually full of life, beauty, and majesty. Even encountering a new species: the Rushi. The Rushi are believed to have been granted the power of magic in the form of summons. It is also believed that they hold the task to restoring the world.
