Evan Wells Talks Uncharted DLC, Home Trophies, & More

Naughty Dog's Evan Wells has been answering some questions for Three Speech lately. These questions shed some light on some of their current standings with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Three Speech asks about multiplayer and downloadable content for Uncharted. He immediately says "no" due to all the medals and unlockables the game already has. So no downloadable content is planned at the moment.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune may seem like an power burner, but it's actually only using 33% of the available power. Hopefully in the future he will move up the ranks to at least 60%. If a game looks that good on 33%, I can't picture how good it would look higher.

He speaks on Home and it's trophies. He says the medals you earned in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune will eventually turn into Home trophies upon it's release.

Naughty Dog Interested in PLAYSTATION Network

In a recent interview with Naughty Dog, GamesIndustry asks Evan Wells about their interest in the PLAYSTATION Network:

"I think it could come in handy during some of the transitional roll over periods between games if there hasn't been enough pre-production work done to get started on the next big project,"
Naughty Dog could use the online PLAYSTATION Store to provide downloadable content for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, their first PLAYSTATION 3 release. In Uncharted, there are also medal points, expecting that soon they can be attached with PLAYSTATION Home.

Hopefully, in the future we will see these implements.

IGN Interviews Uncharted's Evan Wells

IGN decided to find out what's going to be in the demo for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and even if we might see a Jak title on the PLAYSTATION 3. The interview reveals some interesting details.

The Uncharted demo weighs in at around 1.2GB of data and it will probably be about 20 minutes of gameplay. It starts off with a bit of setup with the story and then lets you get warmed up with some traversal, and then throws you into several sequences of combat. We've left the selectable difficulty in there too so you can try it out in any of the three modes.

It seems that Naughty Dog is not planning any downloadable content for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. They do, however, want to take advantage of any HOME integration features that they can.

Wells was also questioned about a Jak & Daxter game for the PLAYSTATION 3, he answered:
"We're all very excited about the technology, engine, and development environment that we've created during the production of Uncharted. Believe it or not, even though the push to the end of this project took a huge effort, everybody is already champing at the bit to get started on what's next. We're doing a lot of post mortems to identify what worked and what could be improved across all departments so that we can achieve even more with our next project. As for Jak and Daxter, there are still a lot of people here who would love to work on the franchise again, especially using all of the cool tech that was developed for Uncharted. However, exactly when you might see that is still anybody's guess."

Q&A: Naughty Dog on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

GameSpot was able to catch up with Evan Wells, developer of Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for the PLAYSTATION 3. They quizzed him on what the experience was like working on a next-gen console, how much of the Cell's processing power is being utilised, and whether the team is happy with the game being compared to the Tomb Raider series.

GameSpot AU: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is now complete, right? How long was the development process overall?

Evan Wells: Yes, we just went gold last week. We were in full production for two years, and we had a small staff of five or six engineers working for about a year before that.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Moves Closer to Gold

Evan Wells gives us an update on Naughty Dog's upcoming Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3. The below is straight from Evan Wells.

Hello again! The countdown is on and we are only two weeks away from a Gold Master. We’re down to the point where every minute matters. The QA departments are working around the clock (and around the globe … in Europe and Japan) looking for any last bugs that we need to get cleaned up before we can ship.

Things are hectic around our studio as we’re trying to juggle several tasks at once. Not only are we trying to wrap up production on the game, but we’re also working frantically on helping with the package design and the strategy guide as well. We’ve also scheduled one last impromptu focus test this weekend in our office so that we can check to make sure that any of the last minute tweaks we’ve made to certain aspects of the game haven’t thrown off any of the previous game balance tuning that we’ve done.

Richard Lemarchand was up North in the Bay Area doing a whirlwind media tour on Thursday and Friday of last week. He stopped by the offices of many magazines and websites to show off the latest build of the game and to give some last minute updates before we send off the final disc for review. Be sure to keep an eye out for coverage and gameplay footage online. This preview from IGN is one of the first I’ve spotted.

We’re also preparing to create another trailer to be released in the coming weeks. Taylor Kurosaki, our video editor, is working on selecting the music to use in the next one and planning out the flow and the structure to tease the story just enough without giving too much away.

The final mixes of sound, music and dialog are all being added to our cinematics and it’s really coming together nicely. We’re also getting back all of our localized assets so that we can ship Uncharted simultaneously around the world in 13 languages!

Uncharted: Update With Demo Details

Naughty Dog is almost finished with the upcoming Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. They say they are in beta and it's great to finally be able to sit down and play the game after doing so much work on it.

A member commented on whether or not we are getting a demo, and Evan Wells responded:

"Yes, we will be creating a downloadable demo for the PSN. We don’t have a final date on when it will be up, but it will be before our release date."
Thats some good news that we can test play it before it comes out. I'll be looking forward to that demo.
