Upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 Advertisements Are Steaming

These TV Spots will eventually be on the online PLAYSTATION Store, they aren't just blowing steam, but even so, these ads are hot.

Assassin's Creed PLAYSTATION 3 Major Problems

A load of Assassin's Creed for PLAYSTATION 3 users are reporting many problems within the game. Including frame rate problems, screen tearing, geometry clipping and game-stopping lock ups, posted on the official game forums.

Many of the users who reported their problems are using the recently released firmware 2.00. Similar problem reports have appeared on the Official PLAYSTATION Boards and the GameSpot forums as well.

Hopefully, it's a firmware glitch that v2.01 fixes.

Frontlines: Drones Trailer

See what you'll be sending into battle so that you can stay out of harm's way in Kaos Studios and THQ's upcoming shooter, Frontlines: Fuel of War.

Transformers: Windows In Disguise

Destructoid found a nice little easter sort of egg today in Assassin's Creed, the recently released stealth game from Ubisoft Montreal.

Seems one of the windows happens to look like Optimus Prime. It also looks like a truck though. Bottom line, if your a fan, it's Optimus.

Ghostbusters: New Screenshots

What you gonna want? Ghostbusters pictures! Yes, we've known of it for a while, but never actually seen anything of it, now here are some screenshots from the teaser we've posted earlier.

If your not already keen on the storyline, it will be taking place after Ghostbusters II in New York City during some ghost invasion. Look for it Autumn 08'.

Check out the teaser here.

Terminator Game Coming to Consoles in 2009

A new studio has recently picked up the license for the Terminator series.

Halcyon is the studio that picked up the rights to Terminator. They are working on a new game based on the upcoming film, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The game and the movie are set to release mid-2009. Both are also their first projects as well.

Terminator can be one sick game, but will the whole "movie games suck" fiasco kill it? I'm hoping not for this, as well as Ghostbusters.

PLAYSTATION 3 Firmware v2.01 Coming Soon

Eric Lempel, director of PLAYSTATION Network operations, updated us today on an upcoming firmware only about a week or so after 2.00.

This new firmware is v2.01. According to Lempel, firmware v2.01 is a minor update that will improve the stability of PLAYSTATION 3.

Hopefully some sort of secret will lie behind this update as it releases in the next few days.

Seems that Ubisoft Montreal's recently released game, Assassin's Creed, comes with a horse riding glitch. Take a look at the mystical horse than can run with only two front legs. Watch above.

PLAYSTATION Network Trailer

The new PLAYSTATION Network trailer that went live on the PLAYSTATION Store yesterday. It advertises the Store's featured games and such, shows that you can play online free and what not. Doesn't seem to mention the lack of game invites and in-game XMB though.

Blu-Ray 1.1 PS3 Update Before End of 2007

Later this year, the PLAYSTATION 3 will be receiving a new update allowing it to play Blu-Ray profile 1.1 movies.

On January 2, 2007, Sony is releasing Resident Evil: Extinction on Blu-Ray Disc. This movie is the first movie to use profile 1.1. It is supposed to be the most technologically advanced Blu-Ray movie ever as it will feature "true picture" and 'Blu-Wizard 2' which will allow your player to 'remember' your viewing preferences for the movie, even after you have ejected it.

For all those who thought that we would see demos on the disc of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5, High-Def Digest report the movie will only feature PlayStation 3 high-definition trailers of Devil May Cry 4 and Resident Evil 5 and not demos as was first thought.

Expect that update before this year ends.

Call of Duty 4 PLAYSTATION 3 Update Details

Robert Bowling, the Community Relations Manager of Infinity Ward, has posted the following information regarding a PLAYSTATION 3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare update and user troubleshooting tips on the official Infinity Ward forums.

The first patch for the game will be an Optimized Connection Patch. He writes:

"Those of you experiencing connection issues should check your router and make sure the following ports are OPEN:

Ports
3075 UDP
3074 UDP

This is the cause of why your Xbox 360 may work online, but your PS3 would not, as the Xbox 360 uses Port: 3074 UDP which is default open for Xbox Live compatible routers, however the PS3 version is using BOTH Port: 3075 (which is default closed for the majority of routers) and 3074 which should be default open.

Please ensure your router has 3075 UDP and 3074 open, information on how to open ports on your router should be found in your individual router's manual or website. This is a temporary solution, the optimized connection patch will fix this automatically once it's released."
They are also optimizing the multiplayer as well with new updates. They've listened to community feedback and have been working on a patch for the PLAYSTATION 3 version of the game, which will release once it's complete. The update will include the following:
Multiplayer Optimization
  • Identify party by Background Color (in Lobby).
  • Optimized Server selection for first match for better connections.
  • Improved network performance for 18 player games.
  • Optimized 'Chase Cam' when spectating.
  • Fixed Playlist error when attempting to join from other games.
  • Handle Corrupt Create A Class data instead of kicking player.
  • Added Kill cam to Airstrike bombs and Claymores.
  • Added the ability to Mute Players on PLAYSTATION 3.
  • Added Recently Met Players on PLAYSTATION 3.
  • Tweaked the following Oldschool Mode Settings based on feedback:
    • Added Unlimited Sprint.
    • Increased Magazine Size.
    • Added Ragdoll Cam.
  • Addition of Host Migration so if Host Leaves auto-chooses next best host.
Well, it's gonna be a good update. No ETA on when it will be releasing though as when it's complete, it must go through Sony's verification process.

PLAYSTATION Store: Over 60 Million Content Downloads

The PLAYSTATION 3 is turning one tomorrow. Sony released a new press release celebrating it's birthday today. In the press release they state that there has been over 60 million content downloads in the first year along with over 200 released software titles.

60 Million is a big number? There is barley much content on the PLAYSTATION Store as it is as they keep removing old videos, and only update on Thursdays, how is there so many downloads?

200 released software titles? I think I've seen only about 100 tops, but maybe thats just me. Here is the full press release:

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA CELEBRATES FIRST BIRTHDAY OF PLAYSTATION®3

FOSTER CITY, Calif., November 16, 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today celebrates the first birthday of its PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. Launched one year ago in North America, PS3 has revolutionized the industry with its Cell Broadband Engine™ and RSX™ technology which gives the system tremendous computational power; Blu-ray Disc™ capabilities which provides state-of-the art graphics and unrivaled storage capacity; and free access to PLAYSTATION®Network where PS3 users can experience online gaming, connect with other PS3 users as well as download games, movies and other content from the PLAYSTATION®Store.

In its first year, more than 200 software titles have been released for PS3 and more than 60 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PLAYSTATION Network worldwide. Also, through the continued support of and dialogue with PS3 users, remarkable hardware advancements and features have been added to the system through firmware updates making it the most advanced computer entertainment system on the market today.

“When we designed PS3 our goal was to introduce a system so technically advanced that it could stand the test of time and could take the industry in a whole new direction, which for PS3 was high-definition entertainment” said Jack Tretton, President and CEO of SCEA. “While we’re excited by the progress we’ve made this first year, we know that like our other platforms, the best is still yet to come, especially given our new hardware and software line-up, and that PS3 will continue to take the industry to new heights for years to come.”

PS3 is the first gaming system to provide a disc capacity of 50GB thanks to its Blu-ray Disc functionality. Current PS3 first party games are currently in the 20GB range, well north of the threshold of HD-DVD or DVD, allowing for unmatched potential for games, movies and other media.

“The inclusion of the Blu-ray drive in PS3 reflects Sony’s absolute commitment to the format,” said Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO of Sony Corporation. “We firmly believe that Blu-ray is the best high definition format for consumers, providing superior capacity, next-generation games, more hit movie titles, and the best possible picture and sound quality. With PS3, you get an amazing game machine and a state-of-the-art high definition movie player, and it is clear from recent sales numbers that this combination is resonating with millions of PS3 customers.”

SCEA recently introduced new PS3 hardware models and pricing and the company is already seeing strong sales momentum as a result—PS3 sales have increased by 192 percent at the top 10 retailers in North America. The availability of new hardware, combined with the release of more than 160 software titles, including 19 first and third-party exclusives such as Heavenly Sword™, Ratchet & Clank® Future: Tools of Destruction™, Warhawk™, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune™, Gran Turismo™ 5 Prologue, Metal Gear Solid® 4: Guns of the Patriots, Unreal Tournament® 3, and Haze™, SCEA expects PS3 momentum to continue this holiday and beyond.

SCEA also recently launched a new PS3 advertising campaign, the company’s biggest marketing effort to date, designed to deliver a high-energy message with a focus on the exciting entertainment value of PS3 and exclusive content found only on PS3. The lineup of advertisements will feature some of SCEA’s most highly anticipated first party titles. In addition to pure game play, the campaign will convey to consumers the benefits of Blu-ray Disc and for the first time, sharp focus will be paid to PLAYSTATION Network along with breakthrough services such as PLAYSTATION®Home.

Happy (late) Birthday PLAYSTATION 3! Your one years old!

Next PLAYSTATION Store Update Is November 20, 2007

Grace Chen, Senior Manager of the PLAYSTATION Store, was nice enough to ignore all the comments asking her questions, and post this comment, notifying us of an earlier update next week.

"Hi everyone. Just to let you know, we’ll be updating the PS Store next Tuesday, instead of Thanksgiving Thursday."
So while we are eating Turkey, we don't have to go check our PLAYSTATION 3's and be pulled from the family. Good looks, I guess.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune: Meet The Dogs

The Uncharted: Drake's Fortune video is one of the videos that went up on the PLAYSTATION Store today. It takes you behind the scenes to meet the very talented and diverse team behind Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, and the upcoming Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. If only we had Crash back.

GameTrailers: Assassin's Creed PS3 vs. 360 Comparison

Here is yet another comparison of the two Assassin's Creed. As we see every other comparison, they seem to change, last time the PLAYSTATION 3 had a lighter interface, now the Xbox 360 does. It's weird.
