GameTrailers Reviews Heavenly Sword

GameTrailers have done their video review like they do for all the hottest games. Overall, they gave Heavenly Sword a 7.9. Here is their breakdown:
Story: 7.9
Design: 6.5
Gameplay: 8.3
Presentation: 8.9
Overall: 7.9
My thoughts on the design grade are different though. The game has great design and deserved more than a 6.5. I'm not sure of the story since I never really bothered to read about it, but I will make sure to submit my review when I get the game. For now, enjoy this one.

Killzone 2: Online Testing Began by Guerrilla Games

In a recent interview over at Killzone.com, Q&A manager, Seb “motherH” Downie mentions that he and his team are currently testing the online portion of Killzone 2:

“Me and my boys have been mostly busy testing Online this past week and making sure that the rewards and ranking are working as intended as well as checking the collision and geometry for MP02, also known as “Road Block” currently, but I’m sure it’ll get a much more exciting name before release. I can’t really give you much in the way of details about Multiplayer otherwise, eventhough I am itching to share it all with you. I guess you’ll have to wait a wee while longer though.”
Hopefully since they are already doing their tests, the online beta will be released to PlayStation Network users soon.

IGN Reviews Skate: 9 for 360, 8.8 for PS3

Is it just me? Or are you tired of Xbox 360 always having the upper hand on multiplatform games. What was the little flaw that caused this? Apparently the PlayStation 3's graphics for the game have "Lots of aliasing and blurring mix with some spotty framerate issues. San Vanelona is still a hot city, but it has some zits." while the Xbox 360's graphics for the game have "Great details in the environments and the character models are solid. The ragdoll physics make every bail look delightfully painful." To tell the truth, I really noticed no difference in the game graphics when that comparison video was posted. Anyway, watch the review above or read it at the link below.

Critical Warhawk Update for September 7, 2007

Dylan Jobe has just posted a message about Warhawk on the US PlayStation Boards:

Everyone,

As you all know, we have been diligently working on the stats issue. It totally sucks that your stats aren't posting and we take it very, very seriously.

So...some of you may have already noticed that we are bringing the entire system down right now to deploy a server-side patch for out stats database in an attempt to resolve the errors when games post stats. We have performed very thorough internal testing but, as will be the case with any large online game, the ultimate test is to get a huge player base to smash the hell out of it.

I think it’s fair to say that if this update doesn't resolve the stats issue...you will all let us know! :-P

This update is rolling out RIGHT NOW...servers will be brought off-line, from 4:15pm PDT and will be down until 6:15pm PDT.

Many apologies for this incredibly late notice but we are absolutely committed to making sure you all have great service, and playing Warhawk this weekend with stats fixed has been our #1 priority!!!

I will post again once we have the system back up and running.

The Orange Box: PlayStation 3 Delay Detailed

According to Doug, one of the guys working on The Orange Box coming soon for the PlayStation 3 along with the Xbox 360 and PC, the code for the game is already done, the reason for the PlayStation 3 delay is:

“is simply that the EA UK team handling its development are on the other side of the ocean and are necessarily a bit behind the core Valve team’s."
Doug then said:
“We weren’t going to hold up PC and 360 for PS3, so this will be released about two or three weeks later.”
When an official release date is confirmed, you will be informed.

Square Enix Tells It Like It Is "Sony Needs to Straighten Up"

Yoichi Wada, the President of Square Enix, stated publicly that Sony has to find and stick with a more solid marketing strategy for the PlayStation 3. Wada told reporters:

"Sony first unveiled the PS3 as a mighty home electronics product. Then, after some badgering from game companies, it shifted the position of the console closer to a game machine."
Wada has a point about this, and is probably hoping they listen as they are great supporters of the PlayStation 3. Sony needs to do better marketing since the price is a little high compared to the Xbox 360 Elite, but the PlayStation 3 can do much more. One thing it needs more of though, is the games. Those are all coming by November though with a good library of selectable titles.

Sony Releases Lair Reviewer's Guide

Straight from IGN.

After the media lashing Lair received last week, Sony seems to think reviewers could use some help coming to grips with the motion-controlled dragon game. A "Lair Reviewer's Guide" just arrived in our mailbox, and is chock full of helpful information that Sony hopes will give critics a better understanding of how the game should be played.

A forward written by the President of developer Factor 5, Julian Eggebrecht, reads, "Open your mind and hands for something very different!" One of the most common criticisms of the game has been that the motion controls are frustrating, and there is no option to use a more traditional control scheme. Eggebrecht recently theorized that game journalists are generally hardcore gamers who simply don't like motion controls.

The Guide is elaborately illustrated with detailed facts on Lair's story, characters, and dragons. Six of the 21 pages are devoted to the game's controls.

It is common for review copies of a game to come with a fact sheet, but this is the first time we've seen an extensive Reviewer's Guide packed with artwork and gameplay advice.

Heavenly Sword SPOnG Review 80%

Time for another review, and another conclusion. Here is the Heavenly Sword review from SPOnG who give it an 80/100. Here is their closing comments:

Heavenly Sword is a graphical masterwork. It looks stunning, and the animation and acting are superb, with only a few very granular niggles. The gameplay is frustrating at times, but it's fluid and fun, offering a decent amount of variety. If you want a game to sit alongside MotorStorm in terms of showing what your buxom next-gen hardware can do, this is for you. Similarly, if you want a solid brawler, you'll get your money's worth here. If, however, you're expecting to be utterly blown away by the Next Big Game, you may be a little disappointed.
