Prototype Pushed to 2009

Sierra Entertainment have announced today that their upcoming open-world action game, Prototype, has been pushed to 2009.

"Sierra Entertainment and Radical Entertainment have made the decision to shift Prototype to launch in 2009," a company spokesperson said. "Since its announcement, Prototype has been regarded by many as groundbreaking and taking the open-world genre in new directions, and in the simplest explanation possible, we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create."

The news isn't all bad, however, read on!

"As we've stated previously, Prototype's multiplayer development was never 'off the table' but rather under evaluation and on hold," a spokesperson said. "Now, with the updated 2009 timing, Prototype multiplayer is still on the table for evaluation, and further details will be revealed down the line."

CES 2008: Prototype Blackwatch Featurette

The developing team for Radical Entertainment's upcoming game, Prototype, explain that the story of this upcoming game is deeper than any other.

They explain Blackwatch, which is a secret government agency that deals with biological experiments. Soon, a viral outbreak occurs in New York, which mutates the player character.

If you cause more destruction, the army will just get tougher on you with heavier weapons, they won't run away.

The Blackwatch soliders are "a pretty terrifying bunch of people". They don't run, they stand their ground. They don't have any problems with taking extreme action to stop the player character.

Watch the video for more, around 4:12, tell me if it reminds you of that episode of Heroes where Peter and the Irish girl go into the future. Just curious to know. Enjoy the video!

Prototype Interview

Prototype is a unique game all it's own, doing something nobody else have ever done. That is transforming into a mutant, being able to adapt skills of fallen enemies, having unique abilities, causing mass chaos where citizens react, in one open world city known as New York.

Prototype is the studios first original game born and raised at Terminal Avenue studios.
"Radical has a history of doing great licenced games," says Tim Bennison, executive producer of Prototype. "We have a history of capturing the essence of a big licence and delivering on the player's expectations of being Homer Simpson or being Tony Montana or being The Hulk."
