Time Crisis 4 Review

Time Crisis 4 is a game that brings home the arcade action you pay a dollar for per death, so you can stop using your money so constantly. Think about it, are you a Time Crisis fan? How much have you spent playing it in the arcade? Stop the spending and pick the game up itself.

Namco Bandai's game has been receiving critical reviews lately, but a few good ones as well. We are here to tell you that Time Crisis 4 isn't as bad as those reviews say. Sure it has it's flaws, but that doesn't mean it's horrible. Let's take a look.

There is a few extra features in the PLAYSTATION 3 version of Time Crisis 4 compared to the arcade title. But lets start with the classic mode, the mode we all know and love. In this mode, you go through three stages, each with it's own amount of levels and bosses.

The two playable characters in the classic arcade mode are Giorgio Bruno or Evan Bernard, agents of the V.S.S.E. International Intelligence Agency. Your task is to stop the terrorist group named W.O.L.F. from obtaining a new biological weapon called Terror Bites, which can kill anything it wants basically.

The game features the classic four gun switch. That means your choice of guns are a handgun, machine gun, shotgun, and grenade, in that order. Running out of ammo is not such a big deal in this game, as you usually get ammo from enemies you kill, the ones in yellow at least. The title is much more than an arcade shooter, you need strategy. You can take cover at will, but that doesn't mean you'll never get shot. When your playing the game for yourself, you'll see you really get into it. You'll find yourself dodging shots with your body rather than taking cover in the game.

Classic mode now features a 2-3 screen battle. Meaning in some cases your going to have to move your screen to the right or left by tilting your Guncon 3 to the direction you need to turn. Knowing that it could get pretty hectic, Namco Bandai had your guide help you out by telling you which direction enemies are coming from.

The sad part of the classic arcade mode is that the game is very short. With only three stages, if your good enough, you could complete the game in a few hours. Luckily if you die at stage 2, your able to replay from there.

Luckily, Namco Bandai knew Time Crisis 4's arcade mode wouldn't be worth $90 so they included an FPS mode for us as well.

In this FPS mode, it fills in some of the holes the story has during the arcade stages. In this mode, you play as Captain William Rush, who also tagged along during the arcade mode. His goal is also to eliminate the Terror Bites. Since it's an FPS mode, you will have new weapsons, such as machine guns, knives, grenades, and more. You will also be making use of the new buttons on the Guncon 3, along with the two analog sticks. You will finally be able to control your character as well, move anywhere you want and such. Whats great about the FPS mode is the size of the level, along with the longevity of it. Oh, and it's actually called Complete Mission mode by the way.

Time Crisis 4 also has some other extra features such as mini-games and Crisis Missions. Crisis Missions are unlocked after you beat the single player classic game. They are basically things such as hit these enemies in a number of seconds.

The mini-games include target practice, shooting a number of targets in an amount of time and such. It's really something to do for practice rather than fun.

The sound in the game are quite fine and not really a bother to me, but there isn't anything your going to be humming years from now. Guns make gunshots, and they seem to be on que, and grenades make explosion noises. But if your oen to like them, then you can access the game soundtrack after you've unlocked them. Voice acting seems fine to me, but it could of been a little better.

Presentation: 8.0
Time Crisis 4 shows light-gun shooting, great for players who really like to feel like they are in the action. I know I did.

Gameplay: 7.5
Time Crisis 4’s gameplay features the classic arcade style you see down at Chubbie's, and comes in with a twist adding the new FPS mode.

Graphics: 7.0
The game’s graphics don't really utilize the power of the PLAYSTATION 3.

Audio: 7.4
The soundtrack for this game is alright, but features nothing you'll be humming from years on.

Replayability: 8.0
You probably won't play this again unless your bored, or if your friends are over. It's really a party game, great to watch, great to play, when other people are there.

Final Verdict: 7.6 out of 10

GunCon 3 Mini-Review

The GunCon 3 is the most complex gun in the series. It features six buttons, the trigger, and two analog sticks. It can get kind of hard to control during the FPS mode, but easily stable during the arcade mode.

Final Verdict: 8.9 out of 10
