Folklore Developers Developing a Game Based on a 'popular Hollywood film'

Game Republic, creators of the PlayStation 3 exclusive titles, Folklore, Toy Home, and Dark Mist, have signed a deal with Brash Entertainment today.

The deal entitles them to produce a game on a "popular Hollywood film", and should be released in 2010 on unannounced platforms. Brash has put out games like Jumper & Alvin & the Chipmunks, but now with Game Republic developing, I think we can expect something good.

Dark Mist: Japan Version Getting Expansion

While Dark Mist still has not been released in the US or EU, Japan will be receiving an expansion to the game titled Dark Mist: The Depths of Darkness. The expansion will be ¥500 ($4.75) and will add three new characters and a four-player online mode.

Hopefully, when this hits the US and EU stores, we won't have to pay the extra cash and have the update already in the game.

Folklore: Final DLC Coming Tomorrow

The final add-on packs for Game Republic's Folklore are arriving on the PLAYSTATION Store tomorrow (most likely). Without further adu, here they are.

Folklore Add-on #5 “Nightmares”

Add to the original storyline as you discover what is causing O’Connell’s nightmares. Wake Charlotte from a deep sleep, undertake the mysterious quest to find out why Livane attacked a tree and complete the Faery Photo mission started in The Origin of Belgae Pack.

This pack also includes a suave top hat and tux for Keats and provides the opportunity to encounter Automata, a Large, robotic Fire Folk that fires a beam of hot magma.

Folklore Add-on #6 “Visions of the Tower”

Continue the awe-inspiring adventures of Ellen and Keats with this Add-On. Learn the reason behind the puzzling sightings of the tower, find out why so many faeries are becoming lost, receive a surprise letter and begin to understand the motives of the Faery Lord.

Also included are an additional Folk, and a new outfit for Ellen, fashioned in the Hell Realm.

It is sad to see the Folklore downloadable content come to an end. Look on the bright side, it just makes room for all the great things to come.

Coming soon (probably this Thursday), Sony will be unleashing two more Folklore tale packs onto the PLAYSTATION Store. Details on each pack are below.

Folklore Add-on #3

“The Alchemist Pack”

In this pack, Ellen heads for Undersea City in search of her mother, while other quests will find you collecting stones for a mysterious alchemy experiment and clearing away the Folks who are blocking the Elevator in Hell Realm.

Discover Scarab, a new Folk that will make sure you get the “point”, as well as a special Faery-inspired costume for Ellen.

Folklore Add-on #4

“The Origin of Belgae”

The doorway to the Netherworld remains open… enjoy four more trips into the unknown set during the original adventure.

The pack challenges you to undertake the ‘rites of the ancient messenger’, discover what’s responsible for making a terrible noise and use a photo of a faery to solve a mystery…

Ellen will be gifted with the “Cloak of the Deep” and collect an additional Folk called Radian, that spins to hit enemies multiple times with outreached arms.

These new tales packs will be priced at $3.99 a piece, or bundled together for $5.99. Expect to see it in the PLAYSTATION Store this Thursday.

It's A Folklore Christmas: Screenshots

While Japan may have received it earlier, that doesn't mean we still don't get it. A free Christmas themed Folklore pack will arrive on the PLAYSTATION Store tomorrow as a part of it's weekly update.

The pack will come with 2 new winter outfits for our heroes Ellen and Keats, a new quest to play with Keats called “Holy Night Visitor”, and a brand new Folk for your collection called “Grab Bag” who you have got to play to believe.

Ellen's new costume is a red snow-bunny outfit complete with the earmuffs, while Keats will sport a slick white trench, festive beanie, and a holiday sweater. This will be sure to make your Christmas a little jollyer.

Dark Mist: English PLAYSTATION Network Trailer

Dark Mist is a PLAYSTATION Network that was released on the Japan store nearly a month ago, and not much has been said about this artistic looking shooter.

Well, fear not, as a new English trailer was posted on GameTrailers today meaning its making it's way to the US and EU PLAYSTATION Stores. Enjoy the trailer.

Folklore Jingles It's Bells

While we received the "The Kidnapped Folk" and the "Bottom of the Sea" Folklore add-on packs today, Japan received a new Folklore goodie.

Until December 27, 2007, the Japan PLAYSTATION Store is offering a Folklore Christmas Pack. The pack includes new Christmas costumes for Ellen & Keats and a Rare Monster is also included. I guess they are new monsters.

Since we are expected to receive Folklore content throughout this month, we might see this Christmas pack next week.

New Folklore Tales On Their Way

Eric Fong, producer of the PLAYSTATION 3 exclusive title, Folklore, made a post today on the official PLAYSTATION blog.

He knows the Folklore community wants more, so he tells us that downloadable add-on packs are coming for the game on the PLAYSTATION Network starting this month.

The add-ons will include a new costume for either Ellen or Keats, a completely new Folk, and 4 additional quests that extend the Folklore story.

Stay tuned and hopefully it will start arriving this week.

European Create-a-Folk Contest Winner Revealed

Even though the contest for the US's Create-a-Folk contest was over in October, Europe's contest just ended. The new creature that will most likely be coming as downloadable contest is going to be the Malion.

The Malion (Spore Lion) runs circles around the enemy whilst creating an intoxicating spore cloud from its tail and thorny mane. When the prey is dazed The Malion jumps in for the kill. The tail and claws are primary attacks, but this Folk is highly poisonous... wear protective gloves! The Malion fears fire.

The creator of this fine creature is Jeff Read from the United Kingdom. Many other entries were submitted, but only won was able to win. Congratulations Jeff!

Toy Home: Japan Gameplay Videos

Toy Home is Game Republic's latest title, which is coming soon to the US as a PLAYSTATION Network downloadable. Over in Japan, it's already available for download, but we will be receiving it sometime this month. All in all, it looks like a title for the zany and fun type, or possibly kids as well. Dark Mist: Stage Five Gameplay Video

We've heard about Dark Mist, and it's even been released on the Japanese PLAYSTATION Store already, but we've never actually seen a video of Game Republic's new Network title. If you ever played eGames' Survival Project, this is what this Dark Mist video of stage five would remind you of.

EGM Reviews Folklore a 5.5/10, Eye of Judgment an 8.0/10

It seems the editors of Electronic Gaming Monthly were not so keen of Game Republic's recently released RPG, Folklore. Although, they took a rather liking into the Eye of Judgment, giving it an 8 out of 10. Folklore sadly received a 5.5 out of 10.

Dark Mist PLAYSTATION Network Game Revealed

You may have noticed Dark Mist in the Europe upcoming list. Well, now theres details. Dark Mist is coming to Japan's store on November 8th for a mere 800 yen.

The PLAYSTATION Network title is developed by Game Republic and is of the Action Shooting genre. The download will come in at about 447mb. The game is only 1 player. You play as the warrior of light, Althemis, shooting down the forces of darkness.

The PLAYSTATION Network title will also utilize the newly released (in Japan now, US Q1 '08) DUALSHOCK 3, meaning rumble for all the confused ones.

Toy Home Trailer

Toy Home is looking like a racing port of Toy Story to me. I'm not all that interested in this game, maybe if they were to add more than just racing you know? Just not that much of a car fan I guess. Anyway, enjoy the trailer.

Toy Home Driving Japan Toys Wild November 1

The official site for upcoming PLAYSTATION Network title developed by Game Republic, Toy Home, is up and reveals some new details. For one, it will be downloadable on the Japanese PLAYSTATION Store starting November 1, 2007.

The game is going to cost 800 yen and will be 629MB in file size. Toy Home will feature single player, two player, online, and battle modes and also support rumble as well. The game will also sport a replay feature.

EBGames: Weird Folklore Description

Over at the official EBGames website, under the PLAYSTATION 3 section, you'll see an image of Keats that says Folklore, they describe it as:

"Two heroes, seeking Lucky Charms ™ and answers to a mystery, journey from a small Irish village to the netherworld. They must suck up the magically delicious souls of the residents to succeed."

GVR Reviews: Folklore

GVR reviews Game Republic & Sony's Folklore in this new review from their site. They stat that Folklore offers a beautifully surreal world and some innovative combat ideas, managing to rise above a few clear flaws. They do not assign the game a score though.

Folklore: Play Demo, Win Artbook

Sony wants you to play Folklore. They want you to know, it's good game. It didn't gather the same hype as Lair and Heavenly Sword, but it easily pars up.

They want you to try out Folklore so much, that they are willing to give you a free Artbook for the game. All you need to do is download the Folklore "PLAYSTATION Underground" Demo from the PLAYSTATION Store, and answer these questions based on your findings in the game.

Truth is, you don't even have to play the demo, they provide you with an answer key. Just copy the answers, send them to Sony via their provided e-mail on the page, and if your 100% correct, your entered in a drawing for 10 people to win the artbook.

Folklore: Launch Trailer HD

GameSpot Reviews Folklore a 7 out of 10

GameSpot's review for Folklore is in, and it has another 7.0 out of 10. The reviews for this game are very odd, because we got a 9 out of 10 from IGN and two 7 out of 10's so far. Here are the good and bads.

The Good

• Intriguing, complex murder mystery
• It's fun to suck the souls out of your enemies
• Varied enemy design requires use of all the different folk attacks at your disposal
• Good use of Sixaxis functionality.

The Bad

• Linear, confined areas are separated by frequent loading screens
• Comic-inspired cutscenes are lifeless
• Playing the same areas as two different characters gets repetitive.
