It was recently confirmed by CVG that Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 will run at 60 frames per second. The console version itself is looking in great shape; the version we saw today was running at a solid 60fps and looked near-identical with the PC counterpart, which was also running side by side. Mouse and keyboard support is also confirmed, although Epic wouldn’t say anything when we quized them about crossplatform play.

1Up is reporting that they received confirmation that both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 will be getting a Dark Sector demo before it's release, sometime between October and November. It's refreshing to hear that we'll be getting a demo around the same time as the 360 does, no?

Backbreaker is the first football game with truly interactive tackles. By utilizing the motion synthesis engine, euphoria, players will never make the same tackle twice, giving them an intensely unique experience every time they play the game.
This game has been announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It premiered with it's own trailer demonstrating how football is a contact sport.
It truly looks like a great tackling experience. For the full preview, go to IGN at the read link.

CVG has heard quiet talk from the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany that Sony has a plan to speak about a rumbling SIXAXIS during its press conference at 5 PM (GMT) today.
It's been rumored that this new controller was coming and is going to be compatible with the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which comes out in October in Japan, which makes one think it will go on sale before Christmas.
For more evidence on this upcoming controller, read this earlier post.

Sony has signed a deal with Electronic Arts and FIFA to be the official partner for the FIFA Interactive World Cup, which kicks off this October. The announcement means that players from 25 countries from around the world can compete to be the world's number one player over PlayStation Network, as well as real-world FIWC 08 qualifying events scheduled to take place in the coming months.
The FIFA Interactive World Cup is the only global football competition to get the official seal of approval from football's governing body and this year the tournament will benefit from a change of format that sees it running for the duration of the real-life football season. Players can register to play on the FIWC website from today and the best of the best will compete at the grand final in Berlin in May, playing for a grand prize of US $20,000.
"To be associated with the world's leading games publisher, EA, and one of the most respected organizations in the world, FIFA, is very exciting for us," said Simon Rutter, VP Sales & Marketing for SCEE. "With the added realism that PS3 brings to FIFA 08, we have every belief that now is the time to truly make an impact with the FIFA Interactive World Cup, We're looking forward to PS3 fans helping to make the tournament every bit as iconic for gamers as the real FIFA World Cup is for football fans."[Via IGN]

When GamePro asked an inside source if BioShock would be coming to PS3, their contact informed us that we'd be wrong to think the game wouldn't be released on Sony's console at a later date.

This is straight from GameIndustry.biz:
Following Sony's recent Leipzig GC announcements, SCEA has indicated that they are still evaluating the services for the North American market.[Via GameIndustry]
In Leipzig, SCEE announced a voice chat, video chat, and instant messaging service named Go! Messenger. While it will continue to expand the capabilities of the PSP via firmware upgrades, SCEA has not made any announcements for this type of service in the US.
The PSP satellite navigation peripheral, named Go! Explore, is currently available in Japan and select countries in Europe. Before considering the product for a North American launch, an SCEA spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz "[We] want to ensure there is the appropriate level of software that would be applicable and bring value to the consumers in North America."
While it had no announcements regarding GPS capabilities for the PSP in the US, SCEA's spokesperson said that the company "will continue to explore appropriate and compelling software that would allow us to bring this feature to PSP in our market."
SCEE also unveiled PlayTV, a TV tuner and PVR accessory. At this time, SCEA has no announcements for similar PS3 DVR capabilities in North America either.
Finally, SCEE announced a partnership with British Sky Broadcasting to bring video downloads to the PSP in the UK and Ireland. SCEA is "evaluating similar types of partnerships in North America" but has no announcement at this time.
"We understand and respect the consumer interest in this type of service, and we will continue to explore downloadable content options for our territory," SCEA's Dave Karraker told GamesIndustry.biz.

EA Revealed that FIFA 08 will feature a 5-on-5 online mode for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
They call the feature, Be A Pro: Online Team. It lets you and four of your friends take control of one guy from the team. The camera will follow you as you take it to the goal, and as you compete with teams from all over the world.
The feature will not be in game when it gets released here on September 28, 2007, but is expected to be a free downloadable update around six to eight weeks later.
"At EA Sports our dream is to create a full 11 versus 11 online gameplay experience in which each user will have a set position during the match and train specifically for that position," said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 08To top all of that off, there will be interactive leagues, which take all of the points won by supporters of a certain club and compile it in one giant league. This is going to be the biggest FIFA to date.
"Be A Pro is the first step in this direction, and now, with the ability to deliver five versus five online gameplay as free downloadable content, we are moving even closer towards the realisation of this dream."
